Teaching Our Kids the Bible in Fun Ways
As a mother, grandmother, and author, I’m passionate about bringing the Bible to life for my children and grandchildren. Over the years, I’ve discovered joy in teaching the timeless truths of Scripture in a way that kids can understand. Here are my favorite ways to do that!
Our Living Room Theater
In our home, storytelling isn’t always about reading. It’s also about entering the story. I remember when we turned our living room into the Sea of Galilee, with sheets for water and a boat made from couch cushions. My kids would don bathrobes to become Jesus’ disciples, their eyes wide with wonder as we navigated through storms and miracles. These moments of laughter and learning stick with us. They paint vivid pictures of God’s power and presence.
Learning in Disguise
Who said learning about the Bible can’t be a blast? We played “David and Goliath” with a homemade sling and cotton balls. Or “Fishers of Men,” where we fished for paper fish. These types of games turn learning into an adventure, showing my kids that God’s Word can be vibrant and exciting.
Expressing Faith Through Creativity
Crafting with my children has always been a special way to connect and discuss biblical truths. Whether we’re painting the days of creation or assembling Noah’s Ark from popsicle sticks, each activity is an opportunity to discuss God’s promises and faithfulness.
The Joy of Worship
Music fills our home with joy and worship, and it’s been a wonderful way to hide God’s Word in our hearts. We’ve sung songs about the fruits of the Spirit, danced to David’s psalms, and even held mini-concerts for friends and family. These moments of making a joyful noise unto the Lord remind us that worship is not just for church—it’s a lifestyle that celebrates our daily relationship with God.
Seeing God’s Handiwork
Our family walks are often explorations of God’s incredible creation, where every leaf, bug, and cloud becomes a testament to His creativity and care. These walks remind us that God’s Word is all around us, written in the world He made.
Stepping into the Story
For years our family led children’s church, and we acted out Bible stories, stepping into the shoes of biblical heroes. As we’ve acted out the courage, faith, and trust of people in the Bible, we not only learned the stories, but we also learned godly character. My kids now understand what it means to walk in faith, face giants with God on their side, and stand up for what’s right.
In all these ways, I’ve seen firsthand how making Bible learning fun and interactive doesn’t just teach our kids about God—it teaches them to draw closer to Him. As we teach the Bible in fun ways, we’re turning lessons into experiences, facts into faith, and stories into life-changing truths. I hope that by sharing these strategies, I can inspire other families to find joy in discovering God’s Word together, creating memories that will guide their hearts for a lifetime.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2, ESV
We want our children to be able to process, understand, apply, and explain the biblical truths God has laid out in his Word to us.
We want them to become Bible investigators, who seek out and learn Scripture.
Good Bible Investigators:
-
- Observe: They pay attention to what they’re reading.
- Interpret: They figure out what the Bible means in that section.
- Apply: They decide how the truth of God’s Word impacts their life today.
Bible Investigators: Creation is a Bible study investigation your kids won’t want to miss.
Written by Danika Cooley and published by The Good Book Company, Bible Investigators: Creation is 272-pages of learning, puzzles, and fun activities designed to help your kids become amazing independent Bible investigators.
Your 8-12 year olds will observe, interpret, and apply God’s Word as they learn what the Bible teaches about Creation. |
“There are a great many truths in life to be found—some interesting, some boring, and some that really matter. You can be the kind of investigator who spends time puzzling out important truth so that you can know all the knowable knowledge that God has given us. That’s right. God, the Creator of the Universe, gave you a great big letter from him to explore and study so that you can discover the truths that really matter to your life!”

“The Bible author wants to remind you that nothing just magically appears. Everything has a creator.
For instance, have you ever been walking along, picking up acorns and leaves when—BOOM—a house just appears right in front of you? First of all, you’d probably be really glad you didn’t get squished by the mysteriously appearing house. But next, you’d wonder where that house came from. Who made it? How did it get there?
We all know that houses don’t appear out of nowhere. Houses are planned, designed, and built. In fact, building a house takes a really long time. Right?”
